Smarter Golf Starts With Better Motion
Getting your ball position right is one of the simplest ways to improve contact and control your shot height. At Spine Align Golf we focus on helping golfers understand not only where the ball sits in their stance but also how it relates to each foot. Small adjustments here can completely change your impact quality and the shape of your ball flight.
Moving the ball slightly back toward your trail foot reduces the effective loft of the club at impact which produces a lower and more penetrating flight. It also allows the club to strike the ball earlier in the swing which can prevent heavy contact on the turf.
Shifting the ball forward toward your lead foot increases the amount of loft applied at impact. This creates more height although it can also make it easier to catch the ball thin if your timing is off.
With these longer clubs place the ball slightly forward of center. This lets you strike the ball just after the low point of your swing giving you a better launch and more consistent contact.
Place the ball near your lead foot often inside the heel. This encourages an upward strike which increases launch and reduces spin for longer straighter drives.
For your shorter clubs keep the ball centered or just slightly back in your stance. This helps you create a controlled strike with a downward blow that produces clean crisp contact.
Many golfers keep the same ball position no matter which club they use which leads to poor contact. Others place the ball far too forward when hitting short irons which creates thin shots. Some golfers forget to adjust their ball position when hitting specialty shots like knockdowns chips or low punch shots.
Start by laying down a couple of alignment sticks or drawing a straight line on the grass. Use these as reference points to check where the ball sits relative to your feet. As you hit shots take note of how even small changes affect your height spin and strike. With regular practice these adjustments will become part of your natural setup routine.
Fine tuning your ball position relative to your feet is a simple adjustment that produces powerful results. When you position the ball correctly for each club you gain better control over contact height and accuracy.
